Dressler Group at Formnext 2021

In Dialogue when it comes to “Added value” for AM powders

Personal encounters are the prelude to every fruitful partnership. Once again, Dressler Group invites you to sow the seeds of success: Under the motto "Unleash the potential of your 3D printing powders", the contract grinder known as "the grinding authority" is supporting new 3D printing projects via its DG Innovation Lab.

#Campaign: "Innovation Journey - A Day at the Technical Centre"
Ambitious companies can apply to undertake their own unique "Innovation Journey" at Formnext. They will gain new insights based on a test day at the Technical Centre – and the prospect of discovering their own unique turbo boost in the 3D printing business.

#Added value, made by Dressler Group
DG's vision is: "Always the right powder for you!". Specifically, this means that customers get precisely the powder they need – and only from DG. Participants in the Innovation Journey at Formnext from 16 to 19 November will learn all the details of what this entails and how it works in practice. At Dressler Group's Technical Centre, the in-house R&D facility, participants will be able to screen materials and evaluate their options for powder optimisation. (See graphik)

Especially in 3D printing, the individual powder design not only determines the quality of the printed product itself, but also the success of every process step in the entire value chain. Even the degree of post-processing required can be positively influenced by an optimal powder design. What's more, (only) precise batch-to-batch quality allows 3D printing applications to succeed on an industrial scale. Ultimately, the ideal powder design enables lower material and energy consumption, less waste, higher quality and speed, and fault-free processes – in other words: added value, made by Dressler Group. This is just one of the ways that we act as a "missing link" for our customers, closing gaps in their processes and delivering more than just run-of-the-mill solutions.

#Case study: joint powder development by DG & Evonik
3D printing/additive manufacturing is becoming an increasingly cost-effective way to produce in large volumes. As well as designing optimal grinding methods and manufacturing processes, using just the right additives can provide a tremendous boost in 3D printing. That is why DG, as a powder designer, and Evonik, as an additive specialist, started a joint project to identify the perfect combination of additives for cryogenically ground powders made from thermoplastic PU elastomers The goals: good pourability, high bulk density, optimum flowability and caking reduction of up to 90 percent, even at high temperatures. Application: for commercial use in selective laser sintering to produce components with high density and outstanding mechanical properties.

"The joint project between DG and our long-standing customer and partner Evonik has produced excellent results for both sides. It shows how much all parties can gain from working together from the outset," says Jan Dressler.

"DG's know-how in cryogenic grinding and Evonik's additive expertise complement each other perfectly when it comes to producing sophisticated 3D printing powders. The collaboration is proving very beneficial. We intend to continue and expand it," says Prof. Dr. Frank Menzel, Director Applied Technology Special Oxides in Business Line Silica bei Evonik Operations GmbH.
